Mr. Poytinger Retires

Please join us in honoring Mr. Poytinger as we salute his thirty-three years of dedicated service to Music Education in the Waukesha Community.


Mr. Poytinger received both Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Music Education degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has been a member of the music faculty in the School District of Waukesha since 1971. His teaching experience includes Director of Bands--South High School -- Central Campus 1971-74, Director of Bands -- North High School 1974-84, and K-12 Music Department Chairman 1984 -- present. In addition he has been a member of the band staff at West High School since 1993. During the time he has served as Department Chairman the music department has grown from 26 full and part-time faculty to 45 full-time staff members who provide music instruction to approximately 9,500 district students. At Waukesha West High School, Mr. Poytinger is a member of the marching band staff, and he is conductor of the Silver Concert Band.


Michael Poytinger has enjoyed a successful and rewarding career as a music teacher and department chair in the School District of Waukesha. Thanks to his leadership, insight, determination and tremendous dedication, the music program in the Waukesha School system is regarded by many to be the most successful and comprehensive in the entire State of Wisconsin. Although he will be retiring from the school district at the end of the 2003-2004 school year, the band staff at West will be asking for his assistance and expertise for many years to come.
