this is an excerpt from a letter from the Dionne quintuplets (Born in 1934 in canada and taken by the canadian government to live in "quintland" for 9 years on display for the public) to the McCaughey Septuplets in 1997:

What is the difference in the Dionne kids being in an amusement park for your enjoyment and all the broods of multiples being broadcast on your TV every week, and then those shows living on FOREVER on the web, DVD's and reruns?
The Dionne girls didn't have a fantastic life after their "show" run ended. Two girls died young and the remaining 3 lived together (2 were divorced) and the 1998 NYT described them as "broke and bitter."
At least in the '00 era, all our mulitples who are on TV now will have access to years and years of therapy.

jon n kate plus 8
If anyone gets mothering tips from Kate Gosselin they seriously need to look elsewhere. Kate Gosselin uses her sharp controlling tongue towards whomever enters her path, the children see and learn this is ok behavior. If you want your children to learn it is alright to disrespect your husband follow Kate Gosselin. If you want your children to learn material things are more important than someones feelings follow Kate Gosselin. If you want your children to be self centered and selfish follow Kate Gosselin. If you want your children to complain about everything follow Kate Gosselin. If you want your children to have no friends follow Kate Gosselin. If you want your children to ban family members from their life follow Kate Gosselin.
Last night, Kate seemed to try to back track by mentioning her harshness with fans and “maybe” she has been hard on Jon. Seems someone has been reading viewer mail is trying to change the negative perceptions of some fans of the show.
Several of the children already exhibit Kate’s bad attitude. Mady, Collin, Hannah, Leah. They are described by Kate Gosselin as stubborn, wants to be in charge, screams to get their point across, complain. Uh Kate sounds like you.
Kate Gosselin will never get the help her family needs. It is all about her and what she wants. In the name, of doing this for my children baloney. In years to come the children will look back and know which parent was there for them, which parent nurtured them, listened to them, let them play like children, took the time to explain things to them. It won’t be the one flying all over the country touting what a great parent she is.

My two cents is that when Jon says he did'nt sign up for all this (media attention, quitting his job to stay at home and be jon and kate plus 8 etc...) yes, yes you did. Are you new? Have you ever seen a reality show on TV before? You did sign up for all THIS you signed up to whore out your family life for the cameras and to be judged and to be stalked by cameras and to have tabloids written about you etc...
and Kate, when you say this is all for your family? Really? Your 8 kids need TONS and TONS of free shit, trips to Colorado, and Hawaii fully paid for, their youth and all their tantrums etc..captured on camera FOREVER, and a 1.2 million dollar house on 40 acres to be happy kids? Really? Cause you know my kids live in a mostly crappy 130k house, the only free shit they got was when the twins were born and we sent out their birth certificates and got like some formula and diapers and we generally don't video tape their meltdowns and bad days and show them to 9.8 million people....and they seem to be happy and healthy and loved.
If any parent cared at all for their kids you would NEVER ever put them on camera for the world to see, at least until they can decide for themselves if they WANT to be on camera.
and..when Kate says none of this effects her children....did she watch one of the girls hug Jon and say "I wish you would come home."? Kids who are 5 do know whats going on, do understand when a parent isnt there and are effected by all "this." If dale just didnt come home how long to you think my kids would just accept he is gone? From experience, about 3 minutes. If dale leaves at night after they are in bed it takes about 3 minutes for Mya to ask "when is daddy coming home."
Every single one of these families who pimp their kids and their relationships out on TLC are engaging in nothing more than child abuse and are just whoring out the kids...it doesnt matter if you are one of the crazy quivverfull parents and your 18 kids or Little People, Big World...just accept and admit you are pimping the kids out for cash...is it somehow acceptable to pimp your kids for cash if you can justify that their college is paid for, they get to experience all this stuff "normal" people don't, etc...? Really? Just because you are not pimping for sex, doesn't make it any more acceptable.

today: aqui!

today jena picked me up at 8:30 and we drove down to schaumberg to go to ikea. i love ikea, i wish to live there. i spent 15 bucks on some random things..we had lunch at california pizza kitchen (very tasty salad) and went to woodfield mall where i was overjoyed to find a kiehl's store and an urban outfitters. we got stuck in random useless traffic on the way home and i am exausted but happy since jena and i had a great time. jena kicks ass if anyone is interested.

sad day
over on facebook i do most of my posting/looking around and chatting with friends...in my travels i have reconnected (or whatever) with old coworkers and high school peeps...it has been cool talking with people i havent seen in years.
its also been sad....
a guy i went to HS with and was friend(ly/s) with just let everyone know that his very young son died. from pictures i estimate that he wasnt much more than 2...I didnt want to be one of the many who were facebooking "what happened? whats wrong?" so i FB'd another friend who said they found their son in the middle of the night with no pulse..they were able to revive him but after 24 hours with no brain activity they decided to let him go and he died in their arms.
heartbreaking.
i'm 32. this is the 2nd child of a high school friend who has died in the last 6 months. at 32 i dont expect to be going to funerals for my friends...or my friends children...at 32 i expect to be attending the funeral for people in their 80's, not a 2 day old baby and a 2 year old.
i never really questioned or considered my own mortality as much as i have in the last 6 months.
so if you think of it, regardless of your spiritual orientation, light a candle or spare a thought for Faith and for Nic, if you are one who believes dead is dead, spare the thought or light the candle for their parents and siblings...if you are one who believes in heaven and all that, well, you know what to do...
my thoughts go out to Brian and his family....

SOMETIME AROUND MIDNIGHT
i havent posted much in awhile....have felt a lack of fun things happening to sit and write about.
i painted my hallway a nice minty green, thanks to my neighbor chris for helping, she did all the edging.
cookies almost all delivered, garret on saturday and V on sunday, then done!!!
dale is out with an old coworker at Mo's, i watched Xfiles and did laundry and now plan on curling up in bed and reading a book til he gets home.

tampa day 1

so today we woke up early (i guess) 7:30 here is 6:30 at home. had a rather good breakfast at the hotel (we are staying in a residence inn...the NFL so far really has done a nice job putting us up both this year and in 2007) and headed out early to busch gardens...we got there 10 min before the park opened and I am really glad i bought a sweatshirt last night because it was raining and cold! we hit the two big coasters within 10 minutes of each other...there were NO lines all day. we rode every coaster once, hit some shows and saw the whole park....all in all as dale said, "it doesnt even feel like we have been here for 8 hours!"
I asserted that since we had no kids to yell at , keep track of, feed, cajole, carry, or help go potty it made ofr a fun day...thanks to Juan and Justin for the hints about the park/weather!
we decided to go out to dinner (as the yling lang beer and doritos in the room were not enought for me) and went to this pizza place called cici's. BEST PIZZA BUFFET EVER.
the traffic down here is mental. the lights take about 5 min between cycles and people drive worse than illinois drivers, if that is possible.
tonight we decided to sit around in our jammies, drink beer (dale) eat baskin robbins (me) and watch Hitman and BSG. Great fraking episode. dont worry, it was a flash bang.
tomorrow we have free tickets (thanks NFL) to the NFL fan experience. plan on doing that all day and then maybe hitting the Mons Venus (best nudie bar in tampa) if i can stomach the $50.00 cover (lets hope ladies enter free)...if not we will hit either the penthouse club or the hard rock.

dale's dad should be here sunday aruond noon with mum, planning on staying in the room and watching the game with her.
i will post many many pictures after i get home.
